Sewage infrastructure in southern Doha city

About the project The project includes the construction of a main drainage tunnel with a length of about 16 km. It consists of three parts east, west and north, as well as 11 deep entrances to carry out the main tunnel excavation works. Benefits of the project The project includes the construction of a main drainage tunnel with a length of about 16 km. It consists of three parts east, west and north, as well as 11 deep entrances to carry out the main tunnel excavation works. This main tunnel will transport wastewater through pumping stations to the current treatment plant in south Doha. The project also includes the drilling of seven sub-sewage tunnels, about 24 km long, which will carry flows from central Doha to the main tunnel. The project is designed to serve the South Doha area and its expected population growth, and can be linked to future infrastructure projects. At the completion of the project, more than 20 old pumping stations currently located in residential and commercial areas in south Doha will be laid off. An important feature of the project is that the main gravity tunnel will connect a number of areas in southern Doha to the sewerage system and will reduce environmental problems by fully controlling the smells at the wastewater treatment plant and the transport system as well as reducing the resulting environmental problems Of sewage flooding caused by the large hydraulic pressure on the current sewerage network, where sewage flows outperform their absorptive capacity. The Authority has started drilling for the main tunnel.
